Milestone for top surveyor

Time has moved on but so have property prices. Top Eastbourne Chartered Surveyor David Green surveyed and valued his first property at just £1,250 in the 1960s.

The family run firm has gone from strength to strength since it was first established principally as an estate agency in Pevensey Bay. As the company branched out and the services offered were expanded, the head office was moved to larger premises in Cornfield Road, Eastbourne.

David Green, who is the Senior Partner, recalls his early days well. “At the start I was entirely on my own, and I remember the first property sounding expensive at £1,250!

“Over the years the practice itself has expanded out of all recognition. We now offer a vast range of professional services, including residential and commercial surveys and valuations, landlord and tenant work, and advice to the Courts,” he said.

David now employs a staff of 10, including his son Marcus, who has worked alongside David for the last 15 years and who is now a Partner. The firm has worked hard to attain the coveted ISO 9001:2002 Quality Assurance standard, which ensures that they maintain rigorous management standards.

“Our success is undoubtedly attributable to teamwork. As a friendly practice, we are as much friends as work colleagues. All the staff have been with us for a number of years - the longest serving has been here for 20 years,” David said.

“Staff and clients all enjoy a happy, friendly relationship, with many being on first name terms - and all are as important as each other, no matter how big or small the job.”

The head office provides a service to the local towns of Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Seaford and Hailsham, but David is also involved in a number of professional and expert cases which take him further afield to Portsmouth and Southampton, Folkestone and Dover, and inland up to the M25.

Through his job, David has become involved with other projects. He was Leader of East Sussex County Council for four years in the 1980s, and during the last 15 years has been an adviser to the President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in respect of arbitrations and other dispute resolution roles.
